De Kock began playing cricket at the age of ten and rose through the ranks to make his first-class debut for Gauteng in the 2010-11 season. He was later called up to the national squad for the T20 series against New Zealand in 2012, and made his debut in the series’ second match.
De Kock made his Test debut against New Zealand in January 2013, scoring a stunning century in his first outing. He then went on to make another century in the next match, becoming the first South African to do so in his first two Tests.
