Early Life of Temba Bavuma 

Bavuma, Thami Tsolekile, and Malusi Siboto are all from the same street and were raised in the vibrant cricket culture of Langa. Bavuma attended St. David’s Marist Inanda, a boys high school in Sandton, and South African College Junior School in Newlands.

Domestic career of Temba Bavuma

2008 saw Bavuma play against Eastern Province in Gauteng for the first time. He batted in the middle order and scored four runs in the first inning, briefly setting a first-class record with teammate Dane Vilas.

For the Lions, Bavuma made his team debut in the 2010–11 campaign. In this inaugural season of the Super Sports Series, he amassed 242 runs at an average of 60.50 in 4 games, including a game-winning score of 124 not out against the Knights, which won him man of the match. In 2011–12, he had his second Super Bowl season, scoring 637 runs at an average of 53.08.

He was able to finish 11th out of the top scorers with this alone. With a worse average of 31.58, he finished as the fifth-highest scorer in the now-renamed Sun Foil Series in 2012–13. He scored heavily again in 2013–14, averaging 39.66 while making 714 runs, good for sixth place on the Sun Foil Series scorers list. He has an exceptionally high 50-to-100 conversion rate for his team, having amassed six 100s and five 50s in Super Sport and Sun foil series cricket.

He has already earned five matches for the South Africa A cricket team as a result of his performances. The first was in Durban in July 2012, against Sri Lanka A. During the A team’s August tour of the nation, he also participated in a game against Ireland. In those two games, he didn’t contribute anything noteworthy. His next A-side appearances came in a series of games between the Indian and Australian A sides, and South Africa A played in South Africa.

He faced India twice and Australia once. In the second game of an inning-long loss to the Indians, he scored 65 runs, which was his best performance. He was part of the Gauteng team that competed in the 2015 Africa T20 Cup.

On December 26, 2014, Bavuma made his South African Test debut against the West Indies.

Quinton de Kock relinquished his captaincy of South Africa’s limited-over side on March 4, 2021, when Bavuma was named. He became the first-ever black African player to hold the position of permanent captain for South Africa’s national team after being named captain. The home series against Pakistan was Bavuma’s first series as captain. He missed the T20I leg of the series due to a hamstring injury he suffered in the third ODI.

Bavuma achieved his first T20I half-century on July 24, 2021, against Ireland in the third Twenty20 International. He scored 72 off 51 deliveries before being bowled out by Barry McCarthy. South Africa traveled to Sri Lanka in September for a three-ODI and three-T20I series. During the opening match, he hurt his right thumb while batting and had to leave the field. Despite winning four of their five games, South Africa was eliminated from the group stage on the basis of net run rate.

In June 2022, South Africa embarked on a five-T20I tour of India. Although Bavuma suffered an elbow injury in the fourth game and was unable to play in South Africa’s subsequent tour of England, the series was drawn. Bavuma was out of form going into the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in October and November, according to sports writer Katya Watney of Wisden.
